Emergency Assistance for Adults (EAA)
Hours: M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The EAA Unit evaluates the need for emergency financial
assistance for SSI recipients. EAA authorizes benefits when necessary
for emergencies beyond the individual’s control. Examples
of emergencies are:
• replacement of SSI checks (usually due to burglary or theft and
verified with a police report)
• provision of emergency housing and emergency moving expenses
• damages due to catastrophes such as fires or floods.
• An EAA funded emergency shelter allowance is also available to
persons who have AIDS or
persons who have tested positive for HIV
and have an HIV-related illness provided that certain eligibility
criteria are met.
Who Is Eligible?
Over 18, on SSI and with a financial emergency that
was beyond the individual’s control.
